About me
My name is Emiel van den Brink. I'm a software engineer from the brainport Eindhoven region with a bachelors degree in Embedded Software and a masters in Theoretical Computer Science. My interests lie in low-level software, computer graphics, simulation software, game engines and algorithm design.
My hobbies
I've got too many hobbies and too little time. So here are the three mainstays.
Software
I love writing software, whether that be for a microcontroller or a parallel supercluster. Taking a difficult problem and coming up with an efficient solution is one of the most satisfying parts of the job. I mostly write C/C++ nowadays, but I'm experienced in python, C# and Java.
Art
I love creating in all kinds of mediums. Most of my work is digital, like paintings or cool shader programs, but I also like to occasionally pick up a pencil and do it the old-fashioned way. I also really like painting miniatures for boardgames and building dioramas.
Game design
Game design might just be my greatest passion. Mostly because it allows me to combine both programming and art in an interactive medium. I also concern myself with boardgames in both design and play. I'm an avid fan of ttrpgs such as DnD, Pathfinder, Shadowrun and VTM.
My work
Throughout the years I've worked on many personal software projects. Here's some of the ones I'm particularly proud of... finished or not.
CoDiS
CoDis, short for Coordination Diagram Simulator is a tool for constructing and visualizing coordination-space diagrams. I made it while I was working on my masters thesis to help illustrate some of the concepts.
Linux LCD driver
A kernel driver for controlling an LCD display for Linux-based systems. This was a ton of fun to make and I learned a lot about the hardships of kernel development and best practices.
JSrogue
An old-school ascii roguelike I wrote entirely in Javascript to get familiar with the language. Features visibility mechanics, enemy AI and random dungeon generation.
KboardPeakMeter
Audio visualization app I wrote for my Razer Chroma keyboard. This was my first venture into the Windows core api which told me a great deal about perseverance and dealing with cryptic documentation...
The Malon
A small video game idea I'm working on with some friends. It's still in the early stages so I can't say much about it for now, but maybe I'll put some more information here in the future.
